Have you ever wondered what that slimy grey build up on your bathtub or your tiles is? That icky grayish stuff is nothing but soap scum.

Essentially soap scum is a mix of your body oils, dead skin cells, soap residue, hard water mineral deposits, etc. awful accumulating over time, and this is the most difficult part to clean in a bathtub. So do you know the best way to clean the bathtub? Read on to know more.

The better and effective way of cleaning the bathtub is to know your product, your tools, and the technique before starting any sort of cleaning.

There are 2 major types of tubs- acrylic and porcelain. How do you know what type of bathtub do you have?

It’s very easy to test this. Just go to the side of the tub and tap it with your fingernails. If you get a metallic sound then its porcelain and if it sounds plastic then it’s acrylic.

The stain is easy to scratch due to its soft and plastic-like nature, so we need to be gentle. While the porcelain bathtub is more durable – so you can use heavy-duty products & tools. Use gentle products like baking soda and very gentle soaps and detergents on pigment tubs.

Before beginning the cleaning process for your bathtub here are a few things to be taken care:

– Test in a hidden area by applying a little baking soda and scrubbing with a damp cloth or scrubbing with the cleaning solution.

– Clear in and around the bathtub of any products or toys.

– Keep all your material handy.

Run your hand around the whole bathtub once. This will give you an idea as to where it is smooth and where it is rough and gritty.

Where soap scum is. Pour a little vinegar on a microfiber cloth and rub it in the area if you have only minor areas to work on. But if you have a lot more grime then scrub it with a non-scratch blue on blue scotch Brita scrub.

If the grime is tough spray a mixture of equal parts of water and vinegar with 2 tablespoons of dish soap. Let this mixture sit on the grime for a few minutes and then get in and scrub it out.

Remember to not pour water/rinse until you have finished the cleaning process of the bathtub. Rinse the dirty bathtub with water only after you have finished cleaning and are satisfied. Always start from the top of the tub to the bottom and also around the drain. Also do not forget to clean the outside of the bathtub as well.

Remind to always wet your sponge and clean in an ‘S’ pattern working your way from back to forth, top to the bottom. In the end, clean dry with an ultra-plush microfiber cloth which is super absorbent to get rid of any excess moisture. Finish off by wiping off the exterior with the same cloth.

Wiping off the excess moisture will help to make the bathtub shiny. This is the best way to clean a bathtub.
